Australian and New Zealand consumers are becoming more conscious of living sustainably, and food businesses, in turn, need to respond accordingly. According to a survey conducted by YouGov, 47% of Australians will avoid using plastic cutlery altogether.
Enter Sustain’s range of wooden and plant-based pulp cutlery made from sustainably sourced birchwood and mixed plant pulp that includes sugarcane, wood and bamboo respectively. These not only look good but will help win you brownie points from green-minded customers.
Sustain’s Pulp Cutlery is made from a mix of sugarcane pulp, (also known as bagasse) which is the fibrous residue that’s left over when the cane has been crushed and the sugar extracted, bamboo and renewable wood. These materials are environmentally conscious alternatives to paper products, as they include a by-product and material that is responsibly sourced, thereby reducing the commercialisation of our precious natural resources.
The green credentials of the pulp cutlery range are impeccable, but there’s more – products made from bagasse are strong and water-resistant. They are also a home compostable product and will breakdown into organic matter which can be used as fertiliser for plants. This is in accordance with AS 5810:2010.
Sustain’s wooden cutlery and stirrers range is equally sustainable, being made from birchwood that has been responsibly sourced. The wooden cutlery looks stylish and natural, and has a light beeswax coating, which improves the user experience. The wooden stirrers aren’t coated. Like their pulp cutlery siblings, both the cutlery and stirrers are compostable under commercial conditions.
