By collaborating with leading companies across sectors to find more sustainable solutions where applicable and source better alternatives where possible, the Sustainability Ambassador Program ensures that those same sustainability goals are being maintained at a local level.
We sat down with Sustainability Ambassador Allen Pang from Bunzl Safety & Lifting, Victoria to discuss why he chose to become apart of the program and the importance of sustainability in safety and PPE.
Why did you volunteer to become a Sustainability Ambassador?
I wanted to learn more about what the other divisions in Bunzl are doing with regards to sustainability and maintaining a circular economy. I also wanted to contribute to my branch in how we can promote sustainability at a local level.
Do you have any personal goals when it comes to sustainability in your industry?
Showing my customers that there are products in the marketplace that promotes sustainability and a circular economy. It’s our responsibility to reduce the impact that waste has on our environment.
What are you most excited to work with your customers about in the sustainability space?
I am excited to show my customers that we can replace items that would normally end up in landfill with more sustainable products or products that promote a circular economy.
I have been taking novel sustainable products and introducing them to customers, showing them that in the marketplace, these products are slowly becoming the norm.
Is there anything that you’d like to see more of when it comes to sustainability in your industry?
We should use less single-use plastic products because once used, they go straight into landfill and can take centuries to decompose. We should instead try to use products that promote a circular economy where when they reach the end of their life cycle, they can be recycled into other products or by buying products with no single-use plastic (SUP) packaging.
What changes do you find most exciting surrounding sustainability in your space?
Bunzl being recognised in winning the 2022 APCO Our Packaging Future Award for Packaging Sustainability Education in the Industry Engagement category. I’m also excited to continue the journey in removing SUP packaging and swapping to more sustainable packaging and PPE that is manufactured from recycled products.
