Developing company-wide sustainable solutions and governance into the soul of a business is a journey best taken with the help of trusted advisors. For Bunzl, collaborating with customers to ensure sustainable alternatives across a range of industries is the way to do it. One way the organisation is pursuing this is with its Sustainability Ambassador program that all Bunzl employees can nominate to be part of.

We sat down with Sustainability Ambassador Allan Diniz, Graduate of Architecture – Foodservice Design at Bunzl Australia and New Zealand, to discuss why he chose to become apart of the program and the importance of sustainability in the Healthcare Industry.

Why did you become a Sustainability Ambassador?

My interests started when we had a visit at our Brisbane Branch by a colleague from WA, Melanie Harris. She ran a presentation for our site on her incredible achievements and work in the field of sustainability. And during this presentation, I was able to understand what we could all do to work towards a better future. I had many insights about how I could present to my clients a more environmentally responsible way of doing things and the products and systems in place Bunzl had to support them.

After her presentation, Melanie recommended joining the program and pointed myself out as a good candidate for the position. We all have a responsibility over the Planet and if I can do something to help in my professional position, why not?!

Do you have any personal goals when it comes to sustainability in your industry?

Yes. I have conviction in sustainability and our sustainable efforts right now being a large and important part of keeping our society thriving for the next generations. I also think that it offers a giant opportunity of business in the growth and development we’ve seen in the past few years.

What are you most excited to work with your customers on in the sustainability space?

The rubbish processing and the general way of waste among the hospitality industry. Yes, I’m currently designing a floor plan sample, where I can propose to our clients a more efficient and responsible way of rubbish disposure.

Creating better waste systems can be an overlooked part of sustainability for a lot of organisations, so it’s nice to be able to educate customers on the benefits.

Is there anything that you’d like to see more of when it comes to sustainability?

I’d love to see how could small and medium business in the hospitality sector could develop their carbon zero emissions marketing. Conversation and promotion is a really big part of change and is what makes real people start doing real things in this area.

What changes do you find most exciting surrounding sustainability in your space?

I’m most excited about the possibility of using electrical vehicles and reduce the usage of ephemerons plastic pieces.
